At the finish line!

You're almost there...you've almost made it. Hopefully you've found your student teaching experience to be an incredibly rewarding one. I'd like you to take some time to reflect on how you've developed over the course of the past several weeks. Please share with us:
1. What about you has changed the most during this experience?
2. What is an area you feel you still have to work on?
3. How are you feeling about the fact that you'll be in charge of your own classroom in the near future?

Social Justice

The Education Department's signature atttribute of social justice is defined as, "...(promoting) awareness that inequities exist and the action to use education as an agent of change toward a more just and civil world."
Think about social justice in terms of your student teaching experience. Do you have students in your classrooms that fall under this concept? Think about students of different cultures/ethnicities, students with low socioeconomic status, students with gay/lesbian parents, homeless students, students with special needs...the list is endless. What types of things have you witnessed being done to support these students? Has your perception of students and families that fall into these categories changed during this experience?

Interviewing - Debrief

Hi, everyone!
I didn't have an opportunity to see most of you last evening after your mock interviews. Let's do some debriefing through your posts. Tell me two things:

1. What question/questions did you feel extremely prepared for?
2. What question/questions did you feel unprepared for?

Hope all is well!

Self-Reflection

As we approach the midway point of the semester, please identify one area in which you feel you have improved since the start of student teaching.  Reflect on how your improvement in planning/preparation, classroom environment, instruction, or professional responsibilities occurred.

Technology

Hi, everyone!
The world of technology is very evident in today's classrooms. Please share with us a way you are using technology in the classroom that is new and innovative. Maybe it's a cool website...maybe you're using clickers...maybe you have a great app that helps with classroom management. Tell us about it, and provide a link, if possible, so we can check it out!
See you Monday!

Let's talk politics!

Hi, everyone!
This past week in seminar, there was some discussion about the presidential candidates and their views on education. I think everyone learned that there is a lot to be learned about the candidates and their views before the election in November!
For this week's blog, please find one quote, fact, paragraph, statement etc. that tells us something about either Obama or Romney and his stance on education. It can be any issue that touches on education (NCLB, school choice, etc.). Reflect on what you find.

Behaviors

Hi, everyone!

I hope the week is going well. I'm sure you are adding more and more to your plate, and, in turn, noticing more and more about student behaviors.

Section I of the Nissman text describes a variety of behaviors that students might exhibit in any classroom setting.   Please identify one of these issues that you have observed in your field placement and discuss whether or not any of the responses offered by Nissman are realistic for the particular context in which you are student teaching.

Also, please either post or email any requests for topics for our next seminar class!

Beginnings....

Hi, all!

I hope your first week of student teaching is going well. I look forward to hearing your stories and watching you grow as a teacher throughout this semester!

As you know, you'll be spending a lot of time this semester working on your e-portfolio. I'd like you to start thinking now about possibilities for artifacts for the 4 domains (Planning and Preparation, The Classroom Environment, Instruction, Professional Responsibilities). For this blog post, please do the following:

-For each domain, briefly discuss an artifact you already have that you could use.
-Comment on the domain you feel the least prepared for, and what you plan to do throughout student teaching to change this.
-Offer any advice to your peers when you see where they might be struggling.

Take care, enjoy the first week, and I'll see you on the 10th!
