    1. The Common Core State Standards are a series of educational guidelines that provide clear goals for student learning and achievement. As an educator, I know that use of the Common Core standards will help ensure that my students have the skills and knowledge that they need to thrive. I always take standards into account when planning and preparing for instruction, and aim not only to meet the standards set for my students, but to build upon them in order to provide the most relevant, meaningful instruction.

    1. Efficient management in the classroom is the key to keeping everyone safe, which is the main priority. A combination of Whole Brain management strategies combined with professional judgement are the most effective ways I have found to manage a classroom. The Whole Brain strategies are effective because the students are constantly engaged and on task. Establishing expectations in the beginning of the year helps to keep students accountable for themselves as well as for each other. When a community is established within your classroom, behaviors of the students in your class deserve more positive consequences and will be reciprocated in what is needed to manage your class throughout the year. Management in the classroom goes more smoothly when there is reciprocated respect between the teacher and students.

    2. Classroom management is a key aspect in a successful classroom environment. It is very important because it helps to keep your students safe. Safety is a priority in a classroom because when students feel safe they are more successful. In my classroom I will use a combination of a behavior system and a reward system. Students need to be praised for the good things that they do as well as being reprimanded for negative behaviors. In my behavior plan students will move a card or clothespin down to a warning and then to a consequence. No matter what age students need to be held responsible for their actions. At the same time there may be students that will never use this method. These students should also be praised for their good behavior. I will have a sticker chart and once a student gets ten stickers they will be able to get a prize from the prize box. It is very important to set these methods as well as your expectations in the beginning of the year so the students are familiar and know what is expected from them. Doing this in the beginning of the year will reduce distractions and problems during the year.

    1. With education constantly changing and our students moving further into the future with technology, it is important to me to integrate all aspects of technology in my classroom. A particular piece of new classroom technology that I plan to utilize in my classroom is the Apple TV. With this piece of technology I can control what is happening on the front board from any point within the classroom. Additionally, it will allow students to interact with the front board from their seats. Having this access to future technology will make learning experiences exciting for my students and will give them many new opportunities to explore learning experiences.

    2. I have used interactive Smartboard Activities in the classroom to assist in teaching Math, Science, and Language Arts. I have also used laptops and the websites KidBlog.com and storyonline.net to allow students to work on their writing and share them with the class, and to expose themselves to literature.
iPods have also been used in Math Centers to help students practice their Math Facts.
With my own classroom, I plan to take full advantage of whatever resources that are provided to allow students to have a new and fun way to learn.

    3. I have used technology in many of my lessons so far. I have used smart boards in various writing, science, and math activities. In math i have used clickers as a fun way to have a pre assessment to a chapter. I have used PowerPoint slide shows and have incorporated various websites to reinforce learning to students. Recently I have used Ipads and numerous apps in my science classes.

    1. In my student teaching placement, I used math pretests to determine flexible groupings for my students. An enrichment group of 4-5 students was formed, and they were allowed to work on a packet of enrichment activities when they completed work from the day's lesson. Two low groups were also created, and sent of of the room with two math specialists. Finally, I worked primarily with my middle group. We all sat on the front carpet and worked together on problems, using the white boards and other tools.
Pretests assessments are an important technique that allow me to ensure my students are getting exactly what they need from the lesson.

    1. I think every teacher has had a lesson that hasn't gone the way they planned. When that happens you have a small panic attack (to yourself of course) then you pull it together and think about how to turn it around. Assess your students and determine why they are not grasping the material you are teaching? Is there a better way to teach it? Maybe they just need a little brain break. There are so many factors that could affect a lesson, so it's important to figure out why it's not going well in the first place!
